Abstract This study was developed to evaluate the efficiency of aftermarket fuel delivery systems for vehicles fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The majority of the CNG and LPG vehicles studied were converted to the alternative fuel after purchase. There are wide variations in the standard of the conversion hardware as well as the setup. This leads to questions regarding the general quality of the converted vehicles, in regard to emissions, security, and performance. There is a considerable body of emissions information for converted light-duty automobiles, along with a smaller number for medium- sized and heavy duty vehicles. However, not a lot of those data demand real world countries, and there is growing concern about in-use emissions. This report also attempts to evaluate variables that allow in-use emissions to vary from the”best-case” results usually reported. The study also addresses issues of gas distribution, fuel composition, performance, safety, and warranty waivers.
